The cave is placed nearby Miljevina, it is 13km away from Foca. It represents the old abyss of the small river Potok,, which plunges 40 km east of the mouth of the cave. During the geological history of the riverbed lowered and left cave “Lednjača” out of active hydrological functions. Speleomorphological cave “Ledenjača” consists of a main canal about 200 meters long and a couple of small side canals, total length of 95 meters. The cave entrance was reconstructed with a stone wall, high up to half of the opening, because of the beliefs of the local population that unhealthy wind blows from the cave and bring the frost, which causes drying of fruit trees and forest.
The main value of the cave “Ledenjača” is engraved drawings that probably date from the Bronze Age, and it is interesting, that it represents a space where prehistoric people used to live and left the many carved drawings, which are located on both sides of the cave entrance. The drawings are on the north and south side of the entrance in the cave, located in three panels called A, B and C. The human figures that show the basic features, eyes and mouth can be seen on these drawings. Also, you can see some kind of the covers that prehistoric people used to cover themselves which indicates to cooler weather when the drawings were carving. They were discovered during systematic, archaeological and ethnological research upper Drina valley in the second half of the seventies and made in two ways: engraving incised lines and puncturing a group of tiny dots. There are different interpretations of drawings, from those that are concerned “falusi”, kind of primitive tools to extremely simplified humans. Drawings are unique in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina and cave “Lednjača” is one of the two caves having front entrance covered with prehistoric drawings. During the winter, the cave is adorned with stalactites and stalagmites.
The cave is named “Ledenjača” because in the summer months, the icicles are formed on the cave ceiling due to leakage water and mixing of cold air from the cave with the warm air outside.
